A record-breaking year for the 10th annual Charlotte FM Radiothon in support of the Charlotte County Hospital Foundation.
Residents came together to raise a total of $533,180 during the 12-hour fundraising event on Thursday.
The grand total included a $400,000 donation from the estate of a former patient at the hospital.
Steve Backman, president of the foundation, said they are always blown away by the support they receive.
“The generosity of the Charlotte County and surrounding communities is always astounding,” said Backman.
Because of the county’s generosity, the hospital will be able to buy not just one but two new pieces of equipment.
The foundation was raising money to buy a $35,000 Paxman scalp cooling machine for cancer patients and a new $447,000 X-ray machine.
In the days leading up to the Radiothon, Backman said they expected it would take two or three years to get enough money for the X-ray machine.
“We’re ready to start again looking for all of the equipment for next year,” he said.
