10th annual Radiothon for Charlotte County Hospital

By Brad Perry Oct 5, 2023 | 6:37 AM

You can help buy new medical equipment for the Charlotte County Hospital in St. Stephen.

The 10th annual Charlotte FM Radiothon takes place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5.

All money raised during the event will go to the Charlotte County Hospital Foundation.

Steve Backman, president of the foundation, said one of the items they are looking to buy is a new X-ray machine.

Backman said the current X-ray machine at the hospital is more than 20 years old.

“We’re going for the new digital technology and a more flexible piece of equipment,” he said.

“It’s around $447,000, so we’re not expecting to raise that this year on the Radiothon, but we’re hoping to do it over the next two to three years.”

The foundation is also raising money to buy a Paxman scalp cooling machine for cancer patients.

Backman said it cools the scalp of individuals receiving chemotherapy to help prevent hair loss.

“That’s one of the big psychological impediments to patients actually agreeing to take chemotherapy because of their fear of losing their hair,” he said. “It’s a very emotional part of the process.”

According to Backman, the Saint John Regional Hospital is the only other healthcare facility in Atlantic Canada that offers this technology.

You can make a donation by dropping by the Charlotte FM studios on Milltown Boulevard, calling 506-466-1000 or 506-466-2222, or going to the foundation’s website by clicking here.

Donations can be made by cash, cheque, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or e-transfer to cchfcares@gmail.com.
