Former IWK CEO released from prison on bail, looking for appeal

By Caitlin Snow Feb 9, 2026 | 4:55 PM

The former CEO of the IWK hospital in Halifax has been released on bail, pending an appeal.

It was February 4 when Tracey Kitch was found guilty of fraud and sentenced to nine months in jail, for charging $47,000 of personal expenses to a corporate credit card in 2018.

She was also sentenced to 24 months of probation.

According to the province’s prosecution service, the appeal is based on six grounds, including that the verdict was unreasonable.

If approved, this would be the second appeal for Kitch who was first convicted in 2022.

She was sentenced to five months in jail but was released on bail, pending an appeal-which was successful- and a new trial that was ordered.

The retrial started last year.

Kitch was appointed CEO in 2014.
