It is being described as another milestone for the New Brunswick Museum revitalization project in Saint John.

Members of the museum’s board of directors have selected EllisDon as the construction manager for the project.

“Their extensive experience in complex cultural projects, combined with their commitment to community building, makes them the ideal partner to help us realize our vision for a revitalized museum,” board chair Tracy Clinch said in a news release.

“We are confident that EllisDon’s expertise and experience will be instrumental in the successful completion of this important project.”

EllisDon has completed numerous large-scale and complex construction projects throughout the Maritimes and across Canada, according to the release.

Shaun Stiles, senior vice president and area manager for Atlantic Canada, said they are honoured to undertake the work.

“This partnership is not just about bricks and mortar; it’s about building a legacy that will stand as a testament to the shared values and aspirations of this vibrant province,” Stiles said in the release.

The revitalization project will include the renovation and expansion of the existing museum building on Douglas Avenue

It is expected to open to the public sometime in 2026. Previous estimates have pegged the costs at around $150 million.

The news comes three months after the museum announced a temporary research and collections centre on Lancaster Avenue.
