Mariners gearing up for short preseason

The Yarmouth Mariners are gearing up for the start of the season.

They’re in action twice this weekend in preseason games against Valley.

Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says they’ve cut their roster down to 21 players.

“We’ve had this week to get everyone on the same page. We’ll try to work some of the bugs out this weekend and get ready for the real season. I’ve liked what I’ve seen so far, the work ethic and attitudes are great,” said Barron.

He says it’s a re-tooled, younger team than last season’s championship squad.

Barron says he’ll look to add more players through the season.

“I wouldn’t call it a rebuild, but I like the look of this team and we’re not done yet. We’ll continue to try and build.”

The Mariners are in Berwick Friday night, and will host the Wildcats Saturday night at 7.

The regular season begins next Friday as Yarmouth hosts Summerside.
