There’s a heat warning for most of mainland Nova Scotia.

Humidex values are expected to reach between 36 and 38 today and tomorrow.

Environment Canada says heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

Extreme heat affects everyone, but the risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and those working or exercising outdoors.

The provincial government provides tips to prevent heat-related illnesses including drink plenty of water, stay in shaded or cool areas and do not leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.
