Another case of a blue/green algae bloom in the region.

This time its at the public beach on Hazelwood Lake.

The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks tested a water sample recently.

Blue/green algae is toxic and residents are asked not consume, use it for household purposes or swim in the water, up to two weeks after it has gone away.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit also says pets should be kept away from the water, as their smaller size makes them more vulnerable.

It adds that blue/green algae blooms have been relatively uncommon but with rising temperatures and warmer water, they may become more common in the region.
