A working smoke alarm help a resident of North Hill Street escape a house fire.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to an alarm around 4:00 Wednesday morning.

Fire crews began working on a basement fire, and a second alarm was sounded.

The resident of the home managed to get out and phone 911 from a neighbors home.

Fire fighters managed to put out the blaze and were at the scene for about two hours afterward to make sure the blaze was out.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Six pumper trucks, and an Aerial Ladder truck responded to the fire.
