Special weather statement issued as more rain on the way

More rain is on the way for Nova Scotia.

Special weather statements are in place for the Atlantic coast and Eastern areas of the province, as up to 90 millimeters of rain could fall.

Meteorologist with the Canadian Hurricane Centre Bob Robichaud says the system will cross into New Brunswick and push rain into our province.

“Eastern Shore, extending into Cape Breton is where we’re expecting the most rainfall, beginning overnight Wednesday,” said Robichaud.

The rain may taper off a bit Wednesday night, but will pick up again into Thursday.

He says Franklin is expected to pass well south of the province, but there’s potential for moisture from the Hurricane to combine with this system.

It’s been a particularly wet summer in Nova Scotia.

Robichaud says between June and mid-August in Halifax last year, 250 millimetres of rain fell.

“This year over the same time frame, we’ve received over 700 millimetres, so quite the contrast to last year.”
