It’s not exactly what they are looking for but its a start, that’s the belief from Councillor Kristin Oliver regarding the province taking back some of the cost burden for health units.
On Tuesday Ontario’s Health Minister, Sylvia Jones, announced the municipal share would be dropping back down from 30 to 25 percent.
She says while the cost should squarely fall on the province as it is healthcare she’s happy to see the government revert to the previous model.
“I think this is something we can live with right now, it will help us alleviate some of the budgetary pressures we’re seeing for 2024.”
The issue was also brought up through the delegation from the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association which Oliver says has been working with the government when it first looked at increasing the municipal share.
