Public comments are being sought as part of a review of the summary of an initial project description for the Great Bear Gold Project near Red Lake.

Kinross Gold Corporation has proposed the construction, operation and eventual decommissioning and abandonment of an open-pit and underground gold mine 23 kilometres south east of the community.

The plan includes three open-pits which would produce up to 60,000 tonnes of ore per day, and an onsite metal mill capable of processing 15,000 tonnes of ore per day.

The expected operational lifespan of the project is set at 20 years.

English Virtual Information Sessions will be held via Zoom on August 31st from 10 30 until Noon, and on September 6th from 6-30 until 8 o’clock at night all times are slated for the eastern time zone.

Those who then wish to provide comment must do so online before midnight on September 18th.

All comments received will then be published as part of the project file.
