Health officials say source for Legionnaire’s outbreak not known

By Caitlin Snow Aug 21, 2023 | 12:36 PM

Nova Scotia Health officials say they do not know the source of the Legionnaire’s disease outbreak.

As of Aug 3, nine cases had been detected with another suspected 20.

Some were at Glen Haven Manor, a long-term care facility next to the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow

Health restrictions have been lifted, with officials saying there is no risk to staff or patients.

Testing continues to find the source.

The disease is spread from breathing in mist or vapor from a contaminated water source. Symptoms include fever, chills, dry cough, muscle aches, headache, loss of appetite, and diarrhea.
