Assault charge leads to drug charges

A report of an assault Sunday evening resulted in the addition of drug trafficking charges following an incident at a southside home.

A 33 year old city man was asked to leave a Cumming Street home just after 6:30 p.m. after he caused damage to the property.

When police arrived they located the suspect nearby and took him into custody following a brief foot chase which culminated in the area of Leith and May Streets.

While in custody the accused was found to be in possession of weapons, drugs, cash other drug trafficking items.

He faces multiple charges including:
• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Fentanyl for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Hydromorphone for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Gabapentin for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Biphentin for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose x 2
• Obstruct Peace Officer
• Resist Peace Officer
• Mischief
• Assault

He has since been remanded into custody following a court appearance Monday.
