Brooklyn, Nova Scotia’s Sarah Mitton will lead out Team Canada this week at the World Athletics Championships (WAC) in Budapest Hungary, along with fellow co-captain Marco Arop.

Mitton is set to become the first Nova Scotian woman to be named a co-captain for the world’s annual track and field top event.

She comes into the competition ranked second in the world in shot-put, bested only by American Chase Ealey.

Mitton’s best-ever finish at the WAC came last year at the 2022 WAC in Eugene, Oregon, where she threw for 19.77 metres. This year she’ll be looking to improve on that, especially coming off recent wins at the Commonwealth Games and NACAC Championships (North American, Central American and Caribean).

The opening ceremonies are taking place on Saturday, August 19, however, Mitton will have to wait a week before competing with the women’s shot-put scheduled for Saturday, August 25.
