A solid haul of medals for the Thunder Bay Police Service at the 2023 World Police and Fire Games.

The games took place between July 28th and August 6th in Winnipeg.

Four officers took home a combined 20 medals from their various competitions, 10 gold, 7 silver, and 3 bronze.

They include:

Detective Constable Shane Baker

• Gold medal in the men’s traditional long/recurve, 50+ division, 900 target round.
• Gold medal in the Field Archery round, traditional division.
• Gold medal in the 3D archery competition.

Staff Sergeant Joe Dampier

• Silver medal in the freestyle unlimited compound division, target archery event.
• Gold medal in men’s high jump.
• Gold medal in the men’s decathlon.

Detective Constable Ryan Doucette

• Gold in the 22-yard trap shoot.
• Gold in the 16-yard trap shoot (sudden death round).
• Gold for overall trap events.
• Silver in the skeet shooting double team event.
• Silver in the skeet shooting single team event.
• Silver in sporting clays shoot event.
• Silver in the sporting clays team shoot event.
• Silver for high overall for all shotgun events for the week.
• Silver medal in Team Skeet shooting competition.
• Bronze in the 16-yard, team trap shoot event.
• Bronze in the 22-yard, team trap shoot event.
• Bronze in the doubles trap team event.

Sergeant John Read

• Gold medal in the 120kg and under bench press competition, 55-50-year-old division.

Detective Rick Popowich

• Gold medal in the 120kg and over bench press competition, 55–59-year-old division.

Additionally Popowich’s gold medal win also set a World Police and Fire Games world record.
