LCBO subscriber data breached

By Adam Riley Aug 17, 2023 | 1:40 PM

For the second time in a year there has been a data breach involving the LCBO.

The alcohol retailer says it was notified by Conversion Digital, a 3rd party service provider it uses to send promotional material, that an unauthorized party obtained access to data including first names and email addresses of LCBO email subscribers.

No passwords or financial information was taken.

This incident only affected the Conversion Digital and no LCBO systems were impacted as a result.

Those who have been impacted have been contacted and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario has been notified.

In a release a spokesperson for the Crown Corporation says:

We value and respect the trust our customers place in us and sincerely regret any inconvenience or concern that this incident may have caused.

Earlier this year malware was uploaded to the LCBO’s website which targeted customers who provided personal information while shopping.
