Hockey Canada released their first ever Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion path forward today which outlines their plans to make hockey more accessible and welcoming of all Canadians.

It includes 13 objectives and 45 actions to be implemented over the next two years and beyond. Some of the actions include identifying and establishing an EDI training plan for their leadership team, expanding their recruitment efforts to reach equity deserving groups, establishing a policy and process for voluntary use of pronouns throughout business practices, and much more.

“Through this Path Forward, we want to re-affirm our commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in the organization and throughout the Members across the country,” said Denise Pattyn, senior vice-president of people, culture, and inclusion at Hockey Canada in a press release.

Today’s announcement comes amidst the ongoing backlash Hockey Canada has been facing for their involvement in the alleged sexual assaults committed by members of the 2018 men’s World Juniors team.
