The body of a second boater who went missing in northeastern New Brunswick has been found.

RCMP say the body of a 75-year-old man was found in the water near Portage Island on Wednesday morning.

“The body has since been positively identified as Aldéric Thibodeau,” police said in a news release Wednesday afternoon.

Alderic and Léandre Thibodeau went out for a fishing trip last Monday on the Acadian Peninsula but failed to return home.

Officials say an overturned boat matching the description of the one they were travelling in was found near Portage Island the following day.

The body of the second boater, 82-year-old Léandre Thibodeau, was found in an area that police were searching on Saturday.

“Police would like to thank the public, as well as the many agencies that have assisted in these search efforts,” RCMP said in Wednesday’s news release.

That included ground search and rescue teams, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Justice and Public Safety, the New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization, the Canadian Coast Guard, the Tracadie Fire Department, and the Esgenoopetitj Fishery Guardians.
