August 15, 2023, Blockhouse, Nova Scotia – Lunenburg District RCMP are currently investigating a significant collision that transpired in Blockhouse, leaving two individuals with serious injuries.

The incident occurred yesterday, around 1:50 p.m., prompting an immediate response from Lunenburg District RCMP, fire department personnel, and Emergency Health Services (EHS). The collision took place at the entrance ramp of Hwy. 103, exit 11. According to the information provided by RCMP officials, the collision involved an Infiniti sport utility vehicle and a Toyota Rav 4, both traveling eastward and merging onto the highway.

The impact of the collision between the two vehicles resulted in severe damage, particularly to the Toyota Rav 4. The driver of the Rav 4, a 78-year-old male from Liverpool, along with his passenger, a 25-year-old male, also from Liverpool, sustained serious injuries due to the crash. EHS was dispatched to the scene promptly and transported both injured individuals to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

On the other hand, the occupants of the Infiniti, totaling three individuals, fortunately, emerged from the collision without any reported injuries. This discrepancy in the outcome of the occupants underscores the unpredictable nature of accidents and their potential consequences.

To ensure a comprehensive understanding of the collision dynamics and contributing factors, a collision reconstructionist was called to the scene. The ongoing investigation aims to shed light on the sequence of events leading up to the collision and ascertain any potential factors that may have contributed to this unfortunate incident.

In the aftermath of the collision, Hwy. 103 experienced temporary closure for a duration of several hours to facilitate the necessary investigative procedures, clean-up, and vehicle removal. However, as of now, the highway has been fully reopened, allowing traffic to resume its normal flow.
