Specialized fire training for local fire crews

By Tim Davidson Aug 15, 2023 | 10:51 AM

Specialized training for fire fighters from the Kenora Fire and Emergency Services Department.

A trailer from the Ontario Fire Marshall’s office has been parked at Fire Station #3 all weekend.

Fire chief Dave Pratt says it can mimic all kinds of fire fighting scenarios.

“This over a million dollar prop that basically simulates propane fires inside the structure,” explains Pratt.

“It’s got three or four different props that actually flow propane and show live fires.  So it can be done, in my opinion, in the safest environment possible.”

Pratt adds they were lucky to be able to able to utilize the fire training trailer.

“There are two in the province.  One kind of tours the north part of the province, and then other the southern.    So we’ve invited our neighbors.   There was staff from Pellatt and from Oxdrift.   We’ve opened it to all our staff, so our career and our paid-for-call.”

The fire fighting training trailer was parked at Fire Station #3 on the east Highway for four days late last week and this past weekend.
