By Adam Riley Aug 14, 2023 | 1:45 PM

A member of the Thunder Bay Police Service was forced to jump into one of the city’s waterways near Memorial Avenue this weekend after a woman had either jumped or fallen from a bridge.

Police were called to Waterford Street area around 8:15 p.m. and when officers arrived they found the woman struggling in the water.

They were also informed the woman was intoxicated on an illicit drug and did not appear to be a strong swimmer.

An officer then entered the water and brought the woman back to shore.

However, she immediately became hostile, fighting with the officer and attempted to return to the waterway.

She continued to be combative as paramedics arrived.

They were able to provide on scene care before taking her to hospital for treatment and evaluation.
