‘Critical’ info missing from recent emergency alert: RCMP

By Brad Perry Aug 14, 2023 | 6:07 AM

Officials are trying to figure out why some information was missing from a recent emergency alert.

RCMP received a report of shots fired near a construction site in Cloverdale, east of Hartland, on Wednesday.

They later issued an emergency alert to residents in the area telling them to stay inside with their doors locked.

But after the incident, Mounties said they learned some “critical information” did not appear in some of the TV and radio alerts.

“After extensive review, the New Brunswick RCMP has confirmed that RCMP staff followed the Alert Ready system policies and procedures required for entering information before launching the alert and that the information entered was complete,” the force said in a statement.

“The information that was missing in certain broadcasts mediums has been attributed to a malfunction of the Alert Ready broadcasting system, which is not owned or maintained by the RCMP.”

The Alert Ready system is owned and operated by Pelmorex Media, which is the owner of The Weather Network.

RCMP said they are working with the New Brunswick government and the system provider to help them rectify the issue.
