A business from northwestern Ontario has made it to the semi-finals of the Pow Wow Pitch.

This is a North American-wide competition featuring Indigenous entrepreneurs.

Ricky Dankewich is starting up his business call Blackstone Concrete.

“We do decorative overlays working specifically with polymer modified concrete,” explains Dankewich.

“It comes as a pre-mixed bag and then I do colour staining. We fix a lot of deteriorating concrete surfaces.  I take it from old deteriorating concrete and turn it into a work of art.”

Dankewich, who is originally from Cat Lake, will be making his pitch to the judges next week.

“I pitch to a panel of judges on August 16th and August 18th there’s going to be voting starting.   The public is going to get a chance to vote for whoever they want to win in Pow Wow Pitch ’23.  Whoever gets the most votes advances to the finals.”

There are a number of categories and Dankewich is in Professional Services with 7 other entrants.

First prize is $25,000.
