Four Nova Scotian communities have reason to be proud today after the winners of the 2023 Lieutenant-Governor’s Community Spirit Award were announced today.

Greenville, in Yarmouth County, New Waterford, in Cape Breton, Pugwash, in Cumberland County, and the HRM’s Sambro were named this year’s recipients of the ward. It recognizes communities that foster long-term engagement, provide support to residents, and preserve their unique history. The award is decided by the Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage based on evidence of citizen engagement, civic pride, and a positive outlook on the future of the community.

“”I am delighted to recognize communities that have gone above… Their commitment to positive change and collective growth is inspirational and I look forward to presenting the awards over the coming weeks,” said Lieutenant Governor Arthur J. LeBlanc.

Ceremonies will be held in each community later this year to celebrate the awards. Since it was introduced in 2008, 50 Nova Scotia communities have been recognized with the Lieutenant-Governor’s Community Spirit Award.
