A search for two missing boaters off the coast of northeastern New Brunswick has been suspended.

Aldéric Thibodeau, 75, and Léandre Thibodeau, 82, failed to return from a fishing trip earlier this week.

RCMP said the two were last seen at a wharf in the community of Brantville around 1 p.m. Monday.

An overturned boat matching the description of the one they were travelling in was found near Portage Island around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre said it suspended its search for the missing boaters as of noon on Wednesday.

“We are thinking of the friends and family at this time, as the case continues with the RCMP as a missing persons,” the centre said in a social media post.

Aldéric Thibodeau is described as approximately 5’5″ tall, weighing about 150 pounds, with green eyes and short grey hair. He was last seen wearing an orange ball cap, green rubber fishing boots and a grey jacket.

Léandre Thibodeau was last seen wearing a yellow rain jacket with a white t-shirt underneath, and grey pants. He has a bald head.
