Elderly Man Charged with Firearms Offences Following Altercation in Gold River

A 70-year-old Gold River resident is facing multiple firearms-related charges following a late-night altercation that occurred on August 6, 2023, along Gloade Ln. Lunenburg District RCMP swiftly responded to the incident, which involved a confrontation among four individuals.

Upon receiving a distress call at approximately 10:15 p.m., Lunenburg District RCMP officers promptly arrived at the scene of the altercation. According to witnesses, one participant allegedly wielded a firearm and directed threats towards another individual involved in the altercation. The situation was brought under control without any physical harm inflicted upon those involved.

The accused, identified solely as a 70-year-old Gold River man, has been charged with Careless Use of a Firearm, Pointing a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, and Uttering Threats. Following his arrest, the individual was released under specific conditions set by a Justice of the Peace. The accused is scheduled to make an appearance before the Bridgewater Provincial Court on October 11, 2023, at 9:30 a.m., where the charges will be addressed.

While no injuries were reported as a result of the altercation, the RCMP continues its investigation to gather all pertinent information related to the incident. Authorities encourage anyone with additional knowledge about the incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
