A 26-year-old has passed away after being severely beat up in Halifax.

It happened on Sunday night near the waterfront.

Officers found him on unconscious on boardwalk just before 10 p.m. and he was taken to hospital where he later died.

Police say they are not in a position to release his name.

No other details about the incident are known.
