Southwestern New Brunswick’s largest cultural festival is happening this weekend in Saint John.

It is the fifth year for International Culture Fest, which is put on by the Saint John Newcomers Centre.

Managing director Mohamed Bagha said they will showcase the culture and talents newcomers bring to the region.

“It is also showing us this is what the region is becoming, a very diverse, multicultural, welcoming place where everybody can celebrate their cultures,” Bagha said in an interview.

More than 30 performers will take to the stage at AREA 506 and along a section of Water Street.

There will also be several food and craft vendors to check out, along with a giant street art project.

Bagha said this year’s culture fest is a partnership with the annual AREA 506 music festival, which is also happening this weekend.

“What this does is it creates a bigger, a bolder festival that encompasses local cultures and international cultures at the same time,” he said.

International Culture Fest will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free.

You can find more details, including the full event schedule, on the Saint John Newcomers Centre’s website.
