Shelburne’s Dock St. Days to honour firefighters

By Kevin Northup Aug 1, 2023 | 1:04 PM

A special theme for Dock St. Days in Shelburne this weekend.

This year’s festival will thank firefighters who responded to the largest forest fire in our province’s history.

The Barrington Lake fire covered over 250 square kilometres in May and June.

Organizer Robin Smith with the Shelburne Events Committee says the entire weekend will be a celebration of firefighters.

“After our opening ceremonies on Friday evening, we’ll be having a firefighter appreciation ceremony. Everyone is welcome to attend, and we’ve invited all 68 departments that were involved in fighting the fire,” says Smith.

Money that was allocated for fireworks will go to prize draws for firefighters.

There will be a Parade of Lights in the harbour on Friday night, a children’s parade, lots of music and activities.
