It looks like there won’t be a new farmer’s market coming to Port Hawkesbury after all.

The planned market, simply titled the Port Hawkesbury Market, announced on its Facebook page last night that it was closing ‘entirely’ and had begun the process of refunding vendors who had already aid to be a part of it.

We’ve contacted the market to find out why they’re closing but haven’t heard back yet. In a comment on one of their previous Facebook posts, the market’s admin noted that they were having trouble finding a suitable day to hold the market. They noted that nearby communities of Antigonish and Mabou already had successful markets that happen on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Many of the vendors who would be part of the Port Hawkesbury market are already part of those markets, making it challenging for organizers.

In addition to shutting down, it seems the market’s Facebook page is taking down some of its content. The profile photo and cover photo both appear blank.
