City police have arrested one of their own following a motor vehicle collision this weekend.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Barrie Drive and Highway 588 in Oliver Paipoonge around 8:20 p.m. Saturday when a pickup truck entered a ditch and struck a tree.

As they approached they observed signs of impairment with the driver.

A breath sample taken at TBPS headquarters confirmed a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit.

The driver was charged with:

• Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired
• Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

According to police the officer was off duty at the time of the incident and is not on active duty at this time.

The service states as the matter is to appear before the courts, it cannot comment further.
