Police are asking for the assistance of the public as the attempt to identify a motorist who sped away from an attempted traffic stop and drove through a construction zone in a dangerous manner Tuesday.

In a joint operation between the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Traffic Unit and the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario, officers were in the midst of a traffic stop on Dawson Road when a Ford F150, traveling 20 km/h over the speed limit, flew past the cruiser involved in the stop.

The driver refused to stop for police and drove away at a high rate of speed westbound on Dawson road, entering a construction zone, driving through a line of pylons, and continued north on Hazelwood Drive.

Officers discontinued the attempted traffic stop in the name of public safety.

Video footage captured during the incident is being reviewed, including officer worn body cameras and in car police cameras.
