The Halifax Mooseheads will have a new head coach to lead them in the 2023/2024 season. Jim Midgeley is returning to the team after a stint as assistant coach of the New York Rangers.

Midgeley is no stranger to Halifax. The Saint Mary’s University alum was an assistant for the 2013 Mooseheads team that took home the Memorial Cup, led by now Stanley Cup Champion Nathan MacKinnon. It was part of a stretch of six years that Midgeley spent as an assistant coach for Halifax, from 2011 to 2017. He also followed that up with one season as the team’s head coach for the 2017/2018 season, in which he led the team to the second-best record in the Maritimes.

“I’m excited to return to the place where I spent seven great seasons and I have been keeping close tabs on the team since I left. Nova Scotia is home for my wife and I, and we are extremely happy with this opportunity,” Midgley said in a press release.

Midgley’s first chance to show fans what he’s all about will come on September 22nd, when the Mooseheads open the season against the Charlottetown Islanders at the Scotiabank Centre.
