Emergency evacuation issued for Shingle Mill Road in Lunenburg County

Residents of Shingle Mill Road North of the 103 Highway in Martin’s River must evacuate immediately due to road access issues caused by flash flooding.

It’s the second evacuation of the day for Lunenburg County, campers at RayPort campground at 161 Shingle Mill Road and 165 Shingle Mill Road in Martin’s River were also ordered to evacuate earlier today.

The District of Lunenburg has declared a local state of emergency and an immediate and mandatory evacuation order has been issued. Emergency personnel are on scene to oversee the evacuation and people are asked to remain calm and follow their instructions.

Where possible, campers are asked to return to their home, or shelter with family or friends. If evacuees have pets to shelter, information will be available at the Blockhouse Fire Hall. After leaving the area, evacuees who need overnight shelter must register in person at the fire hall at Exit 11, 510 Highway 325.

Alternative accommodation for campers is listed below. You must call in advance to confirm space.

Limited sites are available at:

  • Thomas Raddall Provincial Park (12 sites)
  • Graves Island Provincial Park (7 sites)
  • Rissers Beach Provincial Park (4 sites)
  • Unserviced RV Parking at the Forest Heights School parking lot

The district says they’ll provide another update on the situation at 5:00 p.m.
