A special ceremony to honour Korean war veterans from Yarmouth and Digby counties.

It will be held at the Wedgeport Legion Saturday morning at 11.

Certificates of appreciation have been sent, and 10 veterans of the war will be in attendance.

Andre Boudreau with the legion says these ceremonies are always special.

“By having these commemorations, we bring their sacrifice to the forefront. There have been more Canadians involved in these kind of battles than just the first or second World Wars,” said Boudreau.

The Korean War began in 1950, 516 Canadians died and over 26,000 served.

The 10 to receive gifts from Korea include:

Leslie J. Muise, Nelson J. Deveau, Arnold Robert (Bob) Garron, Kenneth R. Jeffery, Glendon V. Gavel, Weldon A. Francis, William (Bill) Allen Richards, Normand M.. Belliveau, Jean Bernard ‘Bernie’ Jacquard and J. Ulysse Deveau.

22 deceased veterans will also be recognized at the ceremony.
