A bear cub and its mother are ‘beary’ thankful after being rescued by the Ontario Provincial Police in the Schreiber area Thursday evening.

Officers received a call regarding a bear cub in distress around 8:30 p.m., after it got caught in a trap designed for smaller animals in a wooded area off Worthington Road.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry was also called in to assist, specifically to verify that the cub could be freed.

Despite the mother being in close proximity her cub she did not need to be given a sedative to allow officers to free her baby, and just stood by and watched.
