Ne-Chee Friendship Center purchases the Legion

The Kenora Legion has officially been sold.

The Ne-Chee Friendship Center officially moves in today.

Executive director of the Friendship Center Patti Fairfield and says they’ll be able to use the space for a number of their programs.

“It’s not really that we’ve outgrown, it’s just great for the things we do, but it’s not great for large public events,” Fairfield said following a deputation to Kenora City Council this week.

“The space we currently have been using, it’s not designed for many people, and to fit them comfortably.  So this is going to make all the difference in the world.”

Fairfield admits the space in the Legion is what attracted them.

“Being able to have a space that holds 350 people is going to be awesome and amazing for us.  We really hope to expand on some those community events we do do and we’ll be able to have a known location we we’re always in the same place.  This is really going to mean a lot, I think, to the community and the Friendship Center.”

Fairfield says they will also be moving their Indigenous Student Success program (satellite classroom of Beaver Brae Secondary School) from the basement of their current building on 2nd Street South to the main floor of the legion.

Part of the deal is that the Kenora Legion will continue to operate it’s club room for the next two years.
