Heat domes shattering temperature records worldwide

By Caitlin Snow Jul 21, 2023 | 6:00 AM

We are smack dab in the middle of summer, and it is hot.  Places all over the world, are experiencing record breaking temperatures.

In fact, according to the Weather Network there are four heat domes across the Northern Hemisphere, causing temperatures to skyrocket.

There is a heat dome over southwestern United States, breaking records in Phoenix, Arizona.  Another is over the North Atlantic Ocean as well as Africa, which is affecting Europe mostly Spain, Morocco, Italy and Algeria. Asia also has a heat dome over it, helping China achieve its hottest all-time temperature of 52.2 Celsius.

The forecaster says a heat dome is basically a high-pressure system that due to wind patterns, gets stranded over an area.

The Weather Network says there is nothing surprising about it being hot since it is summer on these sections of the globe, but it’s the intensity of the heat that is surprising. Another factor that affects the phenomena, they say, is how long the heat stays in place. The southwestern United States, for example has had the excess temperatures for several weeks now.

The Weather Network says, 2023 is on track to become the hottest year ever on record.
