Since 2016 property assessments have been on hold, and its something Ontario municipalities are asking the province to restart.

Property assessments are conducted every four years and were slated to be done in 2020, however the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic put that on pause.

In a letter released by the Association of Municipalities of Ontario the Ford government is being urged to get assessments going again.

AMO says municipalities are still calculating property taxes based off of 2016 valuations, while the all the other Canadian provinces will have have reassessed properties more than six times between 2016 and 2024.

Other signatories to the letter include:

• Tourism Industry Association of Ontario
• Canadian Property Tax Association
• Ontario Chamber of Commerce
• Canadian Federation of Independent Business
• Toronto Financial District
• Building Owners and Managers Association
• Commercial Real Estate Development Association

Almost all of the 444 municipal governments in the province make up the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.
