Four local wines received a top honour.

The 2023 Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Nova Scotia Wines was awarded Wednesday, July 19.

The recipients are:
— 2016 Brut Réserve, Blomidon Estate Winery, Canning
— 2022 Tidal Bay, Gaspereau Vineyards, Gaspereau
— 2016 Blanc de Noirs, Lightfoot & Wolfville Vineyards, Wolfville
— 2020 Luckett Barrel Fermented Chardonnay, Luckett Vineyards, Wolfville.

Wineries across the province submitted up to three commercially available wines made with 100 percent Nova Scotian grapes, then, an independent panel of experts then made the selections.

“Wine has been traded between regions and cultures for thousands of years and the Nova Scotia wine industry is made up of diverse family-run businesses that have chosen farming and winemaking as their passion and profession. People across the globe are seeing Nova Scotia as an exciting, emerging wine destination that produces quality wine and competes with the best. It is truly an honour to continue to celebrate Nova Scotia wine with the Lieutenant-Governor’s award.”
– Haley Brown, Executive Director, Wine Growers Nova Scotia

“Nova Scotia’s vibrant wine industry is producing world-class wines that have garnered international attention, awards, and accolades. Today, we celebrate a truly special recognition here at home. The Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Nova Scotia Wines continues to recognize the exceptional quality of Nova Scotia wines and the achievements of our wineries, winemakers, grape growers, and the countless people who shape this industry.”
– Emily Haynes, Executive Director, Taste of Nova Scotia
