A 53-year-old lower Sackville man has been charged with assault with a weapon after an incident yesterday on Emily Court.

RCMP responded to a request for a wellbeing check at the home. While they were there, the man pointed a knife at a woman inside the house and barricaded himself in a bedroom. The woman was able to escape uninjured.

Residents were asked to avoid the area while the RCMP Emergency Response Team and an RCMP Crisis Negotiation Team worked to safely arrest the man.

He is set to appear in provincial court.
