Intersection project delayed in Yarmouth

By Kevin Northup Jul 19, 2023 | 12:47 PM

A major project in Yarmouth has been delayed until next year.

It will replace underground infrastructure and traffic lights at the Vancouver/Main street intersection.

Mayor Pam Mood says construction won’t begin until the spring, as the industry is very busy and competitive right now.

“Right now the industry is overwhelmed right across the province, so this will give the contractor some more time,” said Mood.

The tender was awarded to Aberdeen Paving for 2.8 million dollars, about 400-thousand over budget.

Mood says they allowed the contractor to determine the start date, to make sure it would receive interest and be completed.

“We’ll put some funds into next year’s budget. We definitely want to give them the time to do the work correctly.”

More precise dates will be provided closer to the start of the work.
