Mounties are investigating after shots were fired at a police officer in western New Brunswick.

Police said it happened in the Centreville area, near Florenceville-Bristol, early Friday morning.

An officer tried to pull over three all-terrain vehicles driving on Route 105 when they turned onto a side road, according to the RCMP.

“As the police officer followed them, several gunshots were discharged in the direction of the police vehicle,” police said in a news release.

The officer also fired their gun, but police said there were no injuries reported during the incident.

RCMP later arrested one person in connection with the incident. There is no word on whether they have been charged.
