Nike has permanently terminated its sponsorship of Hockey Canada in the wake of sexual assault allegations that surfaced last year.

The decision comes after Nike had previously announced a pause in its relationship with the organization.

Other major sponsors including Esso, Telus and Tim Hortons had already suspended their sponsorships in response to the allegations.

The termination of Nike’s sponsorship, which had been in place since 1999, will have financial implications for Hockey Canada and may impact its relationships with other partners.

The organization recently saw the return of Bauer Hockey as a sponsor following leadership changes and the appointment of Katherine Henderson as the new CEO and president.

Although Nike is terminating its individual agreement with Hockey Canada it will continue to make jerseys and other on-ice products for Team Canada athletes as they are still under contract by hockey’s international governing body, the IIHF to produce on-ice gear for all teams competing in international competitions.
