Hotels are filled, with more than 5,000 athletes set to be in town representing over 750 Indigenous Nations.

The North American Indigenous Games begin Saturday, July 15 and will run until next Saturday, July 22.

Sixteen different sports and 21 different venues will be used, spread all over the province, but most will be in Halifax, with the city bracing for a huge boost in tourism, over the next week.

The following roads will be closed Sunday, Sunday for the Opening Ceremonies:

  • Duke Street, from Argyle Street to Brunswick Street
  • Brunswick Street, from Duke Street to Doyle Street
  • Carmichael Street, from Grafton Street to Brunswick Street
  • Prince Street, from Market Street to Carmichael Street
  • Market Street, from Prince Street to Sackville Street
  • Grafton Street, from Sackville Street to Blowers Street
  • Sackville Street, from Grafton Street to Queen Street

Cogswell Street, from North Park Street to Robie Street, will be closed during the closing ceremony on Friday, July 21.

The city will be quite busy with many extra people in town, which will affect parking and bike lanes; the municipality asks residents to please obey all on-street signage.

The municipality has previously announced service impacts for Parks & Recreation facilities and programming.
