Norman Dam June 2022 (Adam Riley / Acadia Broadcasting)

Area lake outflows to decrease

By Adam Riley Jul 14, 2023 | 9:44 AM

The lack of rain in parts of the region is having an effect on area lakes and rivers, especially in the Kenora area.

As a result the Lake of the Woods Control Board will be reducing outflows at the Norman Dam, dropping levels below it by 11 centimetres starting Monday.

This will result in a 5 centimetre difference above the Dalles and there will be no change in the Minaki area.

However, to the East its a bit of a different story, the Secretariat says Lac Seul has increased by 3 centimetres over the past week and is expected to increase further.

But it notes there will be a temporary outage at the Ear Falls and Manitou Falls damns, between Saturday and Monday, resulting in a temporary decrease in outflows during the outage.
