Canadians were a little reluctant to make trips to the United States last month.

Statistics Canada says 1.8 million Canadians returned from visits by vehicle in June.

That is a million less than in May.

June’s figure is about 78 per cent of that recorded in June 2019, before the pandemic. Compared to May, the recovery rate was almost 81 per cent.

Air travel south of the border by Canadians was also down 26 per cent.

Travel by Americans to Canada continues to rise.

The latest figures show 1.4 million U.S. residents crossed through land borders in June.

That is 40 per cent over May’s number and about 85 per cent of the number that visited before the pandemic.

Over 100 thousand crossed on June 30, the Friday preceding the Canada Day weekend.
