Only one new fire was reported in the Northwest Tuesday in the Dryden area, which comes with the relative calm that officials have used to allow for campfires once again.

But fire crews remain busy.

Of the 52 active forest fires in the region only six are considered not under control, another six are under control, one is being held and the rest remain under observation, with limited direct action.

Several of these fires are of note, including:

• Sioux Lookout 33 near Wabakimi Provincial Park at 60,394 hectares
• Sioux Lookout 44 at 6,730 hectares west of Lake St. Joseph
• Nipigon 19 northwest of Ogoki Lake at 10,182 hectares
• Red Lake 28 40 kilometers north of Lac Seul First Nation at 19,177 hectares

All of these fires are located in the northern regions and listed as not under control and are being hit from both the land and air, as values assessment and protection continues.

This comes following the lifting of the restricted fire zone across the province, and a predominant Low to High hazard across the region.

Kenora, Dryden, Sioux Lookout, and Thunder Bay sit within the high range, while the rest of the region, including the far north are low to moderate.

Along with the Restricted Fire Zone, which had been in place since June 9th, being lifted a number of municipal burning bans across the northwest were also rescinded.
