Middle New Cornwall, Nova Scotia – Lunenburg District RCMP apprehended an impaired driver following a collision that occurred in Middle New Cornwall, according to a press release issued on July 7, 2023.

The incident took place on July 5 around 11:48 a.m. The Lunenburg District RCMP, along with fire and Emergency Health Services (EHS), responded to a collision report on Cornwall Rd. It was determined that a Subaru Forester had rear-ended a Massey Ferguson tractor, which was traveling in the same direction, before leaving the scene of the accident.

The 60-year-old driver of the tractor, a resident of Middle Cornwall, sustained minor injuries and was subsequently transported to the hospital by EHS for further medical attention.

RCMP officers swiftly located the Subaru involved in the collision and conducted a traffic stop. The driver of the Subaru, a 33-year-old man from New Germany, emerged from the collision without injuries. However, he exhibited signs consistent with drug impairment. Consequently, the RCMP arrested him and transported him to the Lunenburg RCMP detachment for further investigation.

At the RCMP detachment, the driver failed a drug evaluation. Subsequently, he was released from custody. However, he is expected to appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court at a later date to face a charge of Operation of a Conveyance while Impaired by Drug Causing Bodily Harm.

The Lunenburg District RCMP, along with local authorities, will continue to investigate the incident. The police encourage anyone with additional information pertaining to the collision or the events leading up to it to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.

Authorities remind the public to prioritize safety on the roads and to refrain from operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs or alcohol. Impaired driving poses serious risks not only to the individuals involved but also to innocent road users.
