Bridgewater teen seriously injured in impaired driving related crash

The RCMP have arrested a Bridgewater teen for drunk driving after a crash left one of the passengers in his vehicle with severe injuries.

Officers responded to the scene of the crash in Whynotts Settlement at around 6:10 p.m. Thursday night. They learned that a Pontiac G5 travelling on Highway 325 left the roadway, became airborne, and landed in the ditch.

The front passenger, an 18-year-old Bridgewater man, suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital by LifeFlight. His current condition is unknown.

The three rear passengers, injuries a 19-year-old Wileville man, a 19-year-old Upper Branch man, and a female youth, suffered minor injuries and were transported to hospital by EHS.

The driver, a 19-year-old Bridgewater man, also suffered minor injuries. Police noticed that he as owing signs of impairment and asked him to take a breathalyzer test, which he ended up failing. He was then arrested and transported to hospital where a blood sample was obtained for analysis.

The RCMP will have to await the results of the blood sample analysis before they can officially lay any charges, but it is expected that the driver will face a charge of impaired operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm.

He was released from custody and will appear in provincial court at a later date.
